Carpenters prepare timber components for construction, installing them on roofs, walls, floors or other timber-framed structures. They construct skirting boards, doors, architraves and other household additions. Carpenters may perform work that involves preparing shuttering, stairs, installing doors or window frames.

Carpentry may be defined as the process of making wooden goods and components, viz. roofs, floors, partitions, doors, etc., with the help of carpentry tools. It starts from a marketable form of wood and ends with a finished product.

There are a number of other materials used in carpentry shop besides timber. The main materials are dowels, nails, screws, adhesives, paints and varnishes.
